Job Title: Journeyman Electrician

Department: Project Execution

Reporting to: Equipment Manager / Site Supervisor

Job Purpose and Objectives

The Electrician at Bothar is responsible for the maintenance, servicing, and repair of all equipment used by the company. During projects, this position is a part of the operations team who are responsible for the safe, technical, and economical execution of the company’s projects in the field.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Install, maintain, and service electrical equipment used in Direct Pipe Installations, Microtunneling, Auger Boring projects

• Prepare service logs and reports, in collaboration with the Equipment Manager

• Troubleshoot issues with equipment and conduct required electrical repairs

• Assist with equipment set up during mobilization, and equipment disassembly during demobilization

• Participate in tailgate and operations meetings

• Coordinate with Management and Operators in equipment troubleshooting and documentation

• Ensure applicable HSE standards set by the client and the company are followed and executed

Technical Skills and Knowledge

• Knowledge and understanding of the operation of tunnelling equipment

• Read and interpret electrical drawings, specifications, and applicable codes to determine wiring layouts

• Basic understanding of PLC’s and VFD drives

• Ability to comprehend and troubleshoot electrical systems

• Build, assemble and install cable trays, pull-in and install cables

• Install, test and maintain power generation and distribution systems

• Cut, thread, bend, assemble, and install conduits and other types of the electrical conductor enclosures and fittings

• Position and install distribution and control systems such as switches, relays, circuit breakers, and fuses

• Splice, join, and connect wire to form circuits

• Use of logic and various methods to solve difficult problems with effective and creative solutions

• Basic computer skills, and proficiency in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Excel, Word)

Physical Demand

• While performing the duties of this job, requirements include prolonged standing, walking and/or sitting.

• Specific vision abilities required by this job include distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. Computer / control station work is required which will involve visual focus on screens and documents.

• Manual dexterity required to handle/feel objects, tools, and controls.

• Required to climb stairs and/or ladders, balance, stoop or kneel and/or walk on uneven ground.

• Regularly required to lift and/or move up to 75 pounds.

• Ability to hear equipment alarms, voices, radio transmissions, and other noises consistent with construction sites.

• Ability to work in all weather conditions, inside and outside.

• Capability to work in confined spaces is required

• Working day and night shifts including holidays

• Pass pre-employment physical

Qualifications

• Education – Red Seal Journeyman Electrician Certification

• Experience – Minimum 4 years of experience in electrical works

• Relevant work experience with Mircrotunnel Boring Machines and trenchless technology is an asset

The following safety tickets are required: (Bothar may assist with any required tickets to be on-site)

• WHIMIS, First Aid, CSTS or PCST, Confined Space Entry and Rescue, Fall Arrest / Fall Protection

Other Relevant Information

• This position is assigned to the Yard, and to field locations during operations. Hours of work may vary, including night shifts based on project schedules.

• Must be eligible to work in Canada.

• Pre-employment Drug and Alcohol clearance is required

• Must be fluent in English (written and spoken)
