Job Title: Equipment Operator

Department: Project Execution

Reporting to: Site Supervisor

Job Purpose and Objectives

The Equipment Operator is responsible for the safe operation of heavy-duty equipment for ground excavation and material handing including but not limited to wheeled and track excavator of various capacities, skid steer, loader, tele handler, AWP, and forklifts. They are responsible for assisting the operations team to ensure the project is executed efficiently while following all government and Bothar HSE standards. Successful candidates will have knowledge operating wheeled and tracked excavation/material handling equipment.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Sinking shafts utilizing a variety of methodologies and operating equipment below grade

• Installing and working in trench boxes and shoring

• Working in confined spaces and at heights

• Using multiple attachments on equipment ie: buckets, breakers, grapples, sweepers, forks

• Working a rotation in congested urban areas, remote locations, day shift/night shift, weekends and holidays

• Operate heavy equipment in compliance with the company’s operating safety policies and procedures

• Ensuring all tickets are up to date and valid prior to operating equipment

• Coordinate with site supervisor so that all excavations meet OH&S requirements i.e.: valid locates, back slope on excavations, spoil pile location crossing agreements, etc.

• Load and unload equipment from vehicles and trailers

• Ensure company equipment, material and work site are maintained, kept clean and stored in a safe manner.

• Responsible for documenting pre use equipment inspection and communicating any deficiencies to Site Supervisor

• Responsible for daily maintenance and assisting routine repairs of heavy-duty equipment

• When not operating, assist team with all day to day labouring activities

• Participate in daily HSE meetings and work area inspections

• Tracking of volumes and loads out while mucking out drill cuttings

• Mixing off and drying cuttings prior to loading out

• Reporting low inventory of consumables some examples but not limited to: sawdust, DEF etc.

• Cleaning and fueling of equipment onsite

• Following equipment specifications and limitations ie: lift capacities/charts, approach/working angles, swing radius, etc.

• Inspecting and documenting all rigging accessories prior to use

• Setting up exclusion zones

• Assisting others on site with their tasks as needed

Technical Skills and Knowledge

• A comprehensive understanding of excavation procedures, using various techniques and methods

• Experience with operation of wheeled and track excavation machines to complete work scope

• Knowledge of different hydraulic flow rates depending on attachment specifications

• Experience in utilizing lifting attachments and OH&S regulations pertaining to task

• Following equipment specifications and limitations ie: lift capacities/charts, approach/working angles, swing radius, etc.

Physical Demand

• While performing the duties of this job, requirements include prolonged standing, walking and/or sitting.

• Specific vision abilities required by this job include distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. Computer / control station work is required which will involve visual focus on screens and documents.

• Manual dexterity required to handle/feel objects, tools, and controls.

• Required to climb stairs and/or ladders, balance, stoop or kneel and/or walk on uneven ground.

• Regularly required to lift and/or move up to 75 pounds.

• Ability to hear equipment alarms, voices, radio transmissions, and other noises consistent with construction sites.

• Ability to work in all weather conditions, inside and outside.

• Capability to work in confined spaces is required

• Working day and night shifts including holidays

• Pass pre-employment physical

Qualifications

• Experience in oil field industry, lease construction, heavy civil construction such as Operator, Driller, Heavy Duty Machinery Operator

• Tunneling/underground experience is an asset

• Minimum 4-5 years of specialized experience in the field is an asset

The following safety tickets are required: (Bothar may assist with any missing tickets required to be on-site)

• WHIMIS, First Aid, CSTS or PCST, Confined Space Entry and Rescue, Fall Arrest / Fall Protection, H2s Alive

Other Relevant Information

• This position is assigned to the Yard, and to field locations during operations. Hours of work may vary, including night shifts based on project schedules.

• Must be eligible to work in Canada.

• Pre-employment Drug and Alcohol clearance is required

• Must be fluent in English (written and spoken)
