The Position: The Maintenance Supervisor is responsible for the maintenance, servicing, and repair of all tunneling equipment used by the company. This position is based at our Industrial Yard in Calgary and will require travel to support project sites within North America. This position reports to the Equipment Manager.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Lead and mentor a team of technicians, including electricians and millwrights, both on Project Sites and in the Yard to ensure the project schedule and deliverables are completed, and all work activities are carried out in accordance with the Project Execution Plan  
  • Maintain and service equipment as per the manufacturer recommended intervals used in direct pipe, microtunneling, auger boring and related support equipment.
  • Prepare equipment inspection and service logs and reports, in collaboration with the Equipment Manager, ensuring that repairs, service, and maintenance are completed when required 
  • Assess possible risks or challenges and create a plan for mitigating risks, in collaboration with the Equipment Manager   
  • Ensure quality control measures are met and appropriate documentation is made 
  • Troubleshoot technical and mechanical failures of the tunneling equipment, making recommendations in collaboration with TBM technicians, mechanics and electricians; plan and conduct required repairs 
  • Assist with equipment set up, testing and equipment disassembly during commissioning, mobilization and demobilization of projects 
  • Spare parts ordering and inventory management  
  • Participate in tailgate and operations meetings 
  • Assist in the training of technicians and other staff in the technical operation and maintenance of specialized equipment 
  • Promote safe working conditions and support HSE manager with ensuring the HSE standards of the company and the client are followed by crews, and that all safety documentation is being completed 
  • Work with Equipment Manager to allocate resources to maintenance and repair projects to meet project deadlines and to meet site needs.

Key Technical Skills and Knowledge

  • Knowledge and understanding of the operation, repair and maintenance of heavy-duty industrial equipment 
  • Experience with direct pipe, pipejacking, microtunneling, and auger boring equipment is an asset 
  • Operate hand tools and power tools safely and with skill 
  • Interpret and follow instructions from technical manuals and engineering diagrams 
  • Determine appropriate testing or troubleshooting procedures to find source of issue 
  • Knowledge and experience in working with hydraulic and electrical systems 
  • Ability to weld is an asset 
  • Inventory and spare parts tracking or management  
  • Basic computer skills, and proficiency in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Excel, Word) 

    Qualifications

    • Millwright certification  
    • Minimum 5 years of experience in a related field  
    • Minimum 5 years in supervision, preferably in maintenance planning 
    • Knowledge and experience working with hydraulic and electrical systems 
    • Experience with Tunneling equipment is an asset 
    • Overhead Crane and Forklift tickets are an asset  


      Safety Tickets - Training is available

      Successful candidates will be required to have the following safety tickets;

      • WHIMIS, First Aid, CSTS or PCST, Confined Space Entry and Rescue, Fall Arrest / Fall Protection (training is provided) 
      • Drug and Alcohol clearance 


      Other Relevant Information

      • This position is reporting to the Equipment Manager and is assigned to our Industrial Yard in Calgary, but travel to project sites will be required  
      • While performing the duties of this job, Physical Demands will include prolonged standing, walking and/or sitting, use of hand dexterity, hearing and eyesight 
      • Required to lift and/or move up to 50 lbs  
      • Employee will be required to work in outdoor weather conditions, including extreme cold and heat, from time to time  
      • Required to work in confined spaces
