Job Title: Trenchless Technician

Reporting to: Equipment Manager/Site Supervision

Job Purpose and Objectives

The Trenchless Technician at Bothar is responsible for the maintenance, servicing, and repair of all equipment used by the company. During projects, this position is a part of the operations team who are responsible for the safe, technical, and economical execution of the company’s projects in the field.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Lead the maintenance and service of equipment used in direct pipe, microtunneling, auger boring, and other Bothar related services.
  • Prepare equipment work orders, service logs and reports, in collaboration with the Equipment Manager.
  • Troubleshoot issues with equipment and conduct required repairs.
  • Source and procure spare and repair parts, assist with inventory management.
  • Assist with equipment set up, as well as equipment disassembly during mobilization, commissioning, repairs while equipment is operational, and demobilization.
  • Assess equipment following completion of projects, make recommendations on required repairs & refurbishment, prepare repair estimates & required documentation.
  • Participate in tailgate and operations meetings, as well as regular safety inspections, including FLHA’s. Reviews of SOP’s, JSA’s, and Work Site Observations.
  • Assist in the training of Technicians and other staff in the technical operation and maintenance of specialized equipment.
  • Ensure applicable HSE standards set by the client and the company are followed.
  • Assist other team members in day-to-day shop or project activities.

Key Technical Skills and Knowledge

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill and/or ability required.

  • Knowledge and understanding of the operation, repair and maintenance of heavy-duty industrial equipment, & power generation equipment. Experience with direct pipe, microtunneling, and auger boring equipment is an asset.
  • Operate hand tools and power tools safely and with skill.
  • Interpret and follow instructions from technical manuals and engineering diagrams.
  • Determine appropriate testing or troubleshooting procedures to find source of issue.
  • Knowledge and experience in working with hydraulic and electrical systems.
  • Basic computer skills, and proficiency in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Excel, Word)

Physical Demand

  • While performing the duties of this job, requirements include prolonged standing, walking and/or sitting.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. Computer / control station work is required which will involve visual focus on screens and documents.
  • Manual dexterity required to handle/feel objects, tools, and controls.
  • Required to climb stairs and/or ladders, balance, stoop or kneel and/or walk on uneven ground.
  • Regularly required to lift and/or move up to 75 pounds.
  • Ability to hear equipment alarms, voices, radio transmissions, and other noises consistent with construction sites.
  • Ability to work in all weather conditions, inside and outside.
  • Capability to work in confined spaces is required.
  • Working day and night shifts including holidays.
  • Pass pre-employment physical.

Qualifications

  • Millwright Red Seal Journeyman certification or other relevant experience in related field will be considered
  • Experience – Minimum 4 years of experience as a Mechanic
  • Experience with Heavy Machinery/Hydraulics
  • Relevant work experience with Mircrotunnel Boring Machines and trenchless technology is an asset
  • The following safety tickets are an asset:
    • WHIMIS, First Aid, CSTS or PCST, Confined Space Entry and Rescue, Fall Arrest / Fall Protection

  • Must be eligible to work in Canada.
  • Pre-employment Drug and Alcohol clearance is required.
  • Must be fluent in English (written and spoken).
  • This position is assigned to the Yard, and to field locations during operations. Hours of work may vary, including night shifts based on project schedules.
